What happened to Tanaris?
The area was invaded twice by the Scourge in the years leading to the war against the Lich King. With the Cataclysm, Steamwheedle Port and many parts of Tanaris were flooded, making Gadgetzan a port.

How do you get to Tanaris?
Past level 80, the quickest way to is take the portal from Stormwind to Uldum and simply fly to Tanaris. Otherwise, take the Tram to Ironforge then fly (or walk) to Menethil harbor. From there, take the boat to Theramore and swim through Thousand Needles (south of Dustwallow Marsh) and right into Tanaris.
How do I get to Tanaris classic TBC?
walk south from southern barrens to access Thousand Needles and cross the water then use the path that leads to Gadgetzan which is in Tanaris. You can make it by water from Theramore.
When can I go to Tanaris?
Tanaris is an appropriate leveling zone for players 43+ unless you happen to be playing a great soloing class like a Warlock or Hunter. If you are like me and came here at level 40 you will find that most quests are still red and the enemies several levels above you in even the weakest parts.

Assuming you start in Orgrimmar, leave through the main gate (south) and ride south to Razor Hill and then west (as in, following the road) or immediately head south-west, cutting through the countryside, but take care to stay north of the ravines in north-west Durotar.

Zul’Farrak is located in Tanaris. North west of the town Gadgetzan. Be careful if heading there by your self rather than traveling with your group members because of the elite mobs out side and around the entrance. this is in my opinion one of the best/ most fun instance in the game before end game.

Don’t go into the main room, immediately turn left again and go down the stairs, there you will find a portal to the Caverns of Time, which are in Tanaris.
How do I get to Tanaris from the Eastern Kingdoms?
Once at Menethil Harbor, go to the southern pier and take the boat to Theramore Isle. From Theramore Isle swim south off the pier along the eastern coast until you get to Tanaris. Eventually you should reach Steamwheedle Port on the northeastern coast of Tanaris.
