What are cis platinum complexes used for?
Cisplatin, cisplatinum, or cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II), is a well-known chemotherapeutic drug. It has been used for treatment of numerous human cancers including bladder, head and neck, lung, ovarian, and testicular cancers.
How is carboplatin administered in dogs?
Carboplatin was administered IV at doses of 300 or 350 mg/m2 of body surface area. Response to treatment and evidence of drug toxicity were determined. Result: Response to treatment could be evaluated in 25 dogs. Of those, overall response rate was 28%.
Why does cisplatin have side effects?
Cisplatin is an irritant. An irritant is a chemical that can cause inflammation of the vein through which it is given. If cisplatin escapes from the vein it can cause tissue damage.
Do platinum chemo drugs cause hair loss?
Not all chemotherapy causes hair loss, but some chemotherapy drugs are more likely to cause hair loss or thinning. They include: Altretamine (Hexalen) Carboplatin (Paraplatin)
Does platinum chemo cause hair loss?
Increases in blood tests measuring liver function. These return to normal once treatment is discontinued (see liver problems). Hair loss may cause hair loss; however, this side effect is uncommon.
