Can you use ductile iron for domestic water?
This strong, safe and reliable product has the longevity to last 100+ years. Ductile iron is safe to manufacture, safe to install and safe for communities to provide safe clean drinking water for generations.
What is the OD of 8 ductile iron pipe?

What is direct tapping?
What is Direct Tapping? Direct tapping involves the tapping of threads into the pipe wall and the insertion of a corporation stop. Generally, a hole is drilled into the pipe when a direct tap is created, and the threads are cut while using the same bit. This process allows for the installation of a corporation stop.
Can you thread cast iron pipe?
Yes. It is possible to make threading on cast iron pipes. However, cast iron is brittle and the threads will not take tensile loads(axial loads on threads). So, it is not preferred to use it on pressure pipes or threads having tensile loads.
Can you tap NPT?
Selecting taps for cutting taper pipe threads requires some investigation to ensure two important requirements are met. The use of an NPTF marked tap for NPT applications is appropriate, however NPT taps cannot be used for dryseal (NPTF). When visually comparing these two styles in the same size they look identical.
Is ductile iron pipe the same as cast iron pipe?
Ductile iron pipe is lighter, stronger, and more durable than cast iron. The difference between cast iron and ductile iron is the graphite form. In ductile iron, the graphite form is spheroidal, or nodular; in cast iron, it is in a flake form. It can be hard to tell the difference between iron and ductile pipe.
How does ductile iron pipe fail?
Ductile-iron pipe is inherently stronger than its predecessor, cast-iron pipe, so the pipe’s wall thickness can be reduced. The industry fails to recognize the different ways in which corrosion destroys CIP and DIP. If water does enter the void between the encasement and the pipe wall, it could not get out.
Why is ductile-iron pipe cement lined?
The purpose of installing a cement/mortar lining to the interior wall of the pipe is to reduce the process of tuberculation inside the pipe network. The cement/mortar lining provides an area of high pH near the pipe wall and provides a barrier between the water and the pipe, reducing its susceptibility to corrosion.
Is ductile-iron cast?
Invented in 1943, ductile iron is a modern iteration of cast iron. Cast iron and ductile iron have contrasting physical properties caused by differences in their microstructures.
