Can you mail a ham?
Meats and meat products are mailable in domestic mail only when they conform to regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Packaging must be strong and securely sealed as required in DMM 601.1-7.
How do I ship a ham?
Perishable foods must be packaged properly for transport, and your Easter ham is no different. Be sure the retailer uses thick, food grade cardboard boxes and, crucially, dry ice to keep the ham cold as long as possible. Dry ice will preserve your item for as long as five days.

Frozen meats can be safely shipped by US Mail, UPS, FedEx and other private carriers by using overnight or 2nd Day shipping. Meats must be packed in a Styrofoam cooler to keep meats frozen. You cannot ship meats using regular ice! The package must also be properly labeled as “Perishable” and “Keep Frozen”.
Can you ship cooked meat?
Gel packs are a good choice for short driving trips, most airline travel, and shipping by UPS or Federal Express. Gel packs are a sealed unit, so there’s no need to worry about liquid leaking from the insulated container or the meat becoming waterlogged.

How Long Does Dry Ice Last For Shipping? Most of the items that have to be kept cold and insulated are shipped inside of styrofoam boxes. A 1-pound bag of dry ice can last anywhere between 12 to 24 hours inside of these boxes.

Which end of the ham is better?
The shank end (or leg portion) sports that classic ham profile, so it’s a good choice for a picture-perfect table. The meat tends to be leaner and it has one long bone, which makes carving easier. The butt end (the top half of the ham) has more tender, fattier meat, lending a richer flavor.
