Both percale and sateen sheets are excellent, high-quality options that are available at a variety of price points. And since they’re both made of cotton, they are some of the best sheets for allergies.

What is cotton sateen bedding?

Sateen sheets are 100 percent cotton sheets with a high thread count and a lustrous sheen. They are woven from combed, carded, or long-fiber cotton threads that are then mercerized, meaning they’re soaked in lye and then in acid.

Is sateen or cotton better?

The difference between Sateen and cotton is because of these fibers’ treatment. This sort of “seals” the fibers, making them more durable and long lasting than untreated cotton. It also means the fibers used in Sateen take dye better. Mercerization also gives the fibers a smoother, more reflective surface.

Sateen feels soft or sometime slippery depending on the yarn-type. They can be so soft that some are seduced by the feel without realising they’re also hotter. Also, sateen is used to weave super high thread count sheets (1000TC), which has lead many to believe that high thread counts are soft.
