How big should a barn be for one horse?

Average-sized horses (15 hands) do well in a 10′ x 12′ stall. For taller breeds (16 hands), you should use a 12′ x 12′ stall. Miniature horses or ponies (12- 14 hands) are comfortable in an 8′ x 10′ stall.

How much does it cost to build a small horse barn?

Typical costs: A kit to build a simple pole barn (post-frame construction, which does not require a foundation) starts around $5,000-$10,000 for the materials to build a small, basic structure for one or a few horses, but can cost $30,000 or more for a larger, well-finished pole barn.

Should horse stalls be concrete?

Concrete. Concrete flooring is very common in stables. It is very durable and easy to clean and is hard to damage. If horses are kept in for long periods of time, it will be healthier for their legs if rubber stall mats are laid over the concrete, or at very least, the stall is bedded deeply.

High Country Style Barns — These 2-story layouts can actually qualify as small horse barns, based on their size. In fact, small High Country barns are commonly built with only 2 stalls to keep their size small. However, all barns in this style come with a second story, which provides bonus storage space without increasing the footprint.

Is there a tack room in a two stall barn?

This tiny two-stall barn is perfect for the retired horses who live here. Since the horses are retired, there is no need for a tack room. Christine’s barn was once a garage. When Helena wanted to bring her horse home (and get a second horse), she turned her garage into a two-stall barn with the help of her husband.

What makes this two-stall barn so special?

This two-stall barn is super functional! It has a feed room, trailer space and overhang. It’s perfect for warmer climates. The open design allows your horse to come and go as they please. Ideal for those with only a few horses, this barn is too cute! From the rich wood finish to the horse weathervane, it’s both stylish and practical.
