Do kegs go flat?
Generally, you’ll have at least eight hours to finish the keg before the beer starts to taste stale. If you’re lucky, you may get a full day out of it before it goes completely stale. It all depends on the type of beer and how much oxygen was pumped into it.
Can you ruin a keg?
You merely pressurized the regulator up to the shut off valve. Even if you pressurized the keg to 60 psi there would have been no damage (keg is good to 130’ish). Simply pull the pressure relief valve and start over. Even if you left it at 60 psi overnight there is no long term damage to the beer.
Is it OK to Retap a keg?
When you buy a keg it should only have CO2 in it. As such the keg does not go flat. If you tap it with a true system using CO2 as the gas then you should be able to tap and re-tap the keg as you wish, since you are not introducing a foreign gas. When you tap the keg with a hand pump you are pumping in O2, or oxygen.
Will a tapped keg go flat?
Since a picnic pump uses oxygen instead of carbon dioxide, a tapped keg will only last about 12-24 hours depending on the type of beer and how much oxygen was pumped into it. The oxygen will cause the beer to go flat and spoil quickly if you don’t finish the keg within that time frame.
