Can I use Presta valve on Schrader rim?
You can put a Presta-specific tube in a rim drilled for Schrader valves, but it’s not advisable for anything more than an emergency fix. Tubes and tires tend to move slightly on the rim. In the wider Schrader hole, a Presta can move around enough that the rim will actually cut the tube at the base of the valve.
Can you put a Presta valve tube in a Schrader rim?
Yes you can. Many presta tubes come with a grommet to allow you to use presta valve tubes in a wheel drilled for schraeder valves.
Does Schrader valve size matter?
They require the smallest hole in the rim to fit through and need to have the valve unscrewed before they can be inflated. Schrader valves are the same as found on most cars and motorbikes. Larger in diameter they require a bigger opening in rim than Presta valves.
Are bike rims valve specific?
Schrader drilled rims can use either valve Plus, if your rims are drilled for larger Schrader valves, you’re in luck with either valve. If your rims are only Presta, not so much. And you don’t have to have a Presta valve for tubeless, tubeless Schrader valves do exist!
What’s better Presta or Schrader?
Presta vs Schrader: Which is the superior valve? Because Presta valves were designed specifically for use on bicycles, they are the best. Presta valves are also more narrow, so they require a smaller hole in the rim, with less interruption to the structural integrity of the rim than Schrader valves.
Why do Presta valves exist?
Presta valves are more commonly used because they are narrower, and therefore require a narrower hole in the rim, and the valve hole is the weakest part of the rim. Presta valves also take a higher pressure, which is commonly used in road bike tires.
Why are Presta valves different sizes?
Inner tube valve lengths Presta valves come in different lengths too. With deeper section rims becoming more common, it’s important to make sure that your valve is long enough to protrude through the rim and let you attach a pump to it.
